'Dragon Lady' is an original, completely handmade Limited Edition linocut print which has been designed and printed in Devon, UK. Available in a grey & black, or plain black ink.

This print was conceived in the run-up to the Lunar New Year of the Dragon, as a response to ‘Dragon Lady’ being a term that has always been considered a derogatory stereotype of Asian women, considering them as deceitful and controlling, amongst other assumptions. ‘Dragon Lady’ the linocut seeks to remove the ‘mask’ that was placed upon Asians --especially those of Chinese heritage-- by those who sought to control that narrative.

As a mixed-race artist, this print also an attempt to dispel the ghost-like qualities that I (and perhaps other multi-ethnic folks) feel on a daily basis: that sense of always having to stay in the shadows; to be in a state of limbo about one’s identity and value in this world. It felt important to represent, in printmaking AND as a printmaker(!) the kind of face that so often feels neither here nor there in the world - but that should very much be welcomed and celebrated.

These prints are variable, Limited Editions. Each version has a strict run of only 10 prints each. They are titled and signed by me, and also include my 'chop mark' or traditional signature stamp, in Cantonese. The design is printed onto delicate white Chinese Rice Paper, which has been hand-cut and so might not run precisely true to size.

DIMENSIONS:
Printed image size: 5" x 7" approx.
Total size (incl. paper): A4 approx.
The print/s are unmounted. Mounted versions will be made available soon, or contact me to enquire in advance!

Important: I cannot guarantee that your printed item will be the exact one shown in the example photographs in the shop. As everything is handmade, there will inevitably be some slight variations with each printing; likewise coloured prints with hand-mixed inks may vary slightly in pigment between batches. This is all part of the charm and uniqueness of your purchase, as no two items will be exactly the same! If the paper has been cut or torn by hand, please also expect very minor differences in size.
