Borage is an original, completely handmade linocut print which has been designed and printed in Devon, UK. Part of the Foraged & Found Collection, an ongoing series based on natural history, nostalgia and memory.
'Sow Borage, Sow Courage.'
A herb for resilience and for confidence: a wink of blue on a drab day; a guiding star for those more unsteady moments. Lore has it that slipping borage into drinks before a battle heightened bravery; women would embroider these sapphire-hued motifs onto the garments of jousting knights; and a tincture from the blooms alone was allegedly enough to quiet an anxious heart.
In his 1597 manuscript, ‘Herball’, John Gerard writes, “Ego Borago, gaudia semper ago (I, Borage, bring always joys).”
This print is a Limited Edition of 20, and each one is titled and signed by me. The design is printed onto beautiful and sustainable Nepalese Lokta (tree bark) paper, which has been hand-torn and so features four deckled edges.

Important: I cannot guarantee that your printed item will be the exact one shown in the example photographs in the shop. As everything is handmade, there will inevitably be some slight variations with each printing; likewise coloured prints with hand-mixed inks may vary slightly in pigment between batches. This is all part of the charm and uniqueness of your purchase, as no two items will be exactly the same! If the paper has been cut or torn by hand, please also expect very minor differences in size.
