'Eucrasia' is an original, completely handmade linocut print which has been designed and printed in Devon, UK. Available in two limited edition versions: a dark sepia ink, or as a full colour, multi-block print.
A version of the colour print was exhibited in Spring 2023 at The Old Operating Theatre, London. The sepia print has been selected for exhibition at the Studio KIND Open, Devon.
The concept behind this design stems from beautiful 16th century illustrated manuscripts, and a branch of Ancient Greek medicine known as Humorism. This theorised that there were ‘four humors’ attached to the human body: phlegmatic (phlegm), choleric (yellow bile), sanguine (blood), and melancholic (black bile). Each humor was further assigned attributes such as internal organs (heart, spleen, gall bladder, brain), planetary alignments (Mars, Saturn, Jupiter, Moon), and a treasury of healing flowers and plants specifically intended to restore one’s health to a harmonious and balanced state, otherwise known as ‘Eucrasia.’

Dark sepia ink on cream Kitakata paper. Edition of 10.
Multi-colour on pale green Kitakata paper. Edition of 8.
Both prints are Variable, Limited Editions (V/E). Here, this means that the design has been made in several colourways, and that there may be differences (variables) between print runs. It also means that only a small number of each print is available, and once they sell out, they will not be printed again in these particular colours.
Each one is titled and signed by me. The design is printed onto beautiful Japanese Kitakata paper, which has been hand-torn and hand-cut, and so may feature a deckled edge.

Important: I cannot guarantee that your printed item will be the exact one shown in the example photographs in the shop. As everything is handmade, there will inevitably be some slight variations with each printing; likewise coloured prints with hand-mixed inks may vary slightly in pigment between batches. This is all part of the charm and uniqueness of your purchase, as no two items will be exactly the same! If the paper has been cut or torn by hand, please also expect very minor differences in size.
